Hidden gem in Melbourne's inner west

Posted on December 7th, 2020 in Resources by Compton

Kingsville has been a well-kept secret by locals since the '70s. Not to be mistaken for West Footscray, this hidden gem in Melbourne’s inner west boasts an array of attractions. Although Kingsville consists of distinct Edwardian and heritage homes, don’t be fooled by its outward appearance. Once you step inside one of these classic properties, you’ll often be greeted by a trendy and modern interior.

This inner-west suburb is only a mere 8kms from Melbourne’s CBD, and has easy access to several public transport options. Yet, despite its central location, Kingsville has still maintained affordable housing prices.

Still not convinced that Kingsville is for you? Check out our short-list of the top things to do in this multifaceted suburb.

1.

Eat + Drink

  • Starting off the list is Willow Wine Café, a trendy hangout located on one of Kingsville’s quiet residential streets. While Kingsville has many mouth-watering eateries, this one is a local favourite.
  • This delightful spot is a hybrid between (you guessed it) a café and wine bar. The carefully selected bar menu and complimenting wine list makes it the go-to hangout for many locals and passers-by.
  • Sticking with the unique theme of the suburb, Willow’s serene interior consists of exposed brick flooring, high ceilings and bursts of greenery. It is the perfect spot for your weekly #foodspo posts.

2.

Parks + Recreation

  • Kingsville’s reputation as an urban oasis wouldn’t be complete without the help of its luscious local parks. Edwards reserve and Cruickshank park boast beautiful greenery, great walking tracks, picnic areas and an off-leash dog park.
  • It’s not uncommon to see a range of activities taking place across both parks, including boot camps, fitness classes and other community gatherings.

Community + Activities

  • Part of Kingsville’s charm is its emphasis on community. This diverse, yet tight-knit bunch is often brought together through the South Kingsville Community Centre (SKCC).
  • SKCC provides a range of services for people from all walks of life, including amazing facilities, classes and resources. Whether you want to learn how to code, make pizza like a pro or participate in a relaxing yoga class, SKCC has it all.
