5 top reasons why people love living in the inner west

Posted on July 7th, 2022 in Resources by Compton

It goes without saying that the gentrification of Melbourne’s inner west has been one of the most rapid across all of Victoria. While evidence of strong industrial roots remains, its blend with the modern makes the inner west an eclectic destination and melting pot of culture and diversity. From professionals to families, the west has something for everyone.

With many members of the Compton Green team living and working in inner west Melbourne, we decided to ask them what they love about our community. Here are their top answers:

1. Close to the CBD

A quick train ride to the CBD is a major drawcard for locals who work in the city. It’s also very convenient if you’re heading into town for theatre, casino, shopping, festivities and visiting the sporting precincts.

2. Close to water and recreation

Enjoy the great city views along the bay, go for a swim at Williamstown or Altona beaches or explore beautiful Newport Lakes, Cherry Lake and Yarraville Gardens. The sunsets (and sunrises if you’re an early riser) are pretty spectacular to watch from the west.

3. Village vibe and close-knit community

The saying ‘West is Best’ rings true when it comes to being part of a close knit and supportive community. From West Footscray to Yarraville, Williamstown and Altona Meadows, each suburb has a strong village vibe that promotes close-knit and cohesive communities.

4. Access to great food

When it comes to good food, the inner west has it all. From up-and-coming restaurants, trendy bars, foodie paradise Grazeland and the Slow Food Melbourne farmers’ markets, you will never be short on access to local produce and cuisines from all corners of the globe.

5. Easy access to the Westgate freeway

Day trips are a breeze when you live in the inner west. Want to visit Geelong, Daylesford, Sassafras or Red Hill? Jump on the freeway and your destination is roughly an hour away.

We should warn you - once you move to the inner west, you may never want to leave!
